Viraf Sarkari talks about beautiful and entertaining story of BalleBalle-The Musical
Wedding season arrives and Wizcraft is back with a magnificent Broadway-styled musical comedy which combines the popularity of Bollywood music and the craziness of an Indian (Punjabi) wedding.
Lets get up close with Viraf Sarkari on his new Broadway style musical "Balle Balle"
Editor : What is Balle Balle
all about?
Viraf : Balle Balle is a Bollywood Musical Comedy. It
is hilarious, heartfelt and revolves around the chaos of love, arranged
marriages and weddings. It is modern Bollywood’s biggest original Blockbuster
and a glorious addition to the world of family-friendly Musicals. Bursting with
color, invention and spectacle, Balle Balle flits between comic zip and
dramatic grit as it immerses the Audience immediately into the day’s long
affair that is the decadent, colorful process of Indian weddings. This
captivating revue has exquisitely worked-out its lavish physical details with
the brightest talents enacting the bumbling romances of multiple star-crossed
lovers in an exuberant mix of iconic Bollywood songs, sumptuous costumes,
breathtaking visual sets and sizzling choreography.
Editor : What makes it different from other
theatricals?
Viraf : It’s not a conventional classic theater play
but a musical and that’s what makes it different. What I have done before in
Zangoora, Jhumroo and Jaan-e-Jigar is all a fantasy space where as Balle Balle
is a contemporary style which sets it apart from rest of the plays.
Editor : What is the idea behind the entire
concept?
Viraf : The idea is to create something which
showcases our Indian culture through a wedding, how it is celebrated and the
fun families have during a wedding. People who are into the theatre business
are into it more for hobby & passion including actors, technicians etc.
their production budget is very small and therefore very few people would take
up theatre as a profession. We have actually changed that, we have hired
actors, dancers, crew and cast and trained them, given them employment. Also
theatre is mainly seen as a weekend activity. There are plays on
Saturdays- Sundays only. Nobody has ventured out into 7 days a week kind of a
running model. We are venturing into this by following a Broadway, West end
model by staging 8 shows in a week. This way we are trying to professionalize
the theatre industry. Our productions are quite different from what you see in
regular theatre. This way we are trying to professionalize the theatre
industry. Our productions are quite different from what you see in regular theatre.
Editor : Which cities/city does Balle Balle
plan to tour?
Viraf : Initially we are Kick starting this musical
in Mumbai and then later we will tour the world. For 2018, we plan to
start traveling across the world, including United Kingdom, Europe, USA, Asia
Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Australia, Middle East and Thailand.
Balle Balle has been directed by Viraf Sarkari and produced by Andre Timmins, Sabbas Joseph and Viraf Sarkari.
With a Bollywood themed production and an interesting story line, it will
keep the audiences hooked to their seats guessing the conclusion right till the
end!You will feel, laugh, cry, dance and applaud every moment as the musical unfolds.
