Bedi and produced by Actor Prepares Productions and was held on 8th
March, 2015, 7 pm at the Tata theatre,NCPA, Mumbai. The play received
a phenomenal response by the audience, especially with Neena Gupta's
come back on stage after over a decade.
The audience comprised beautiful faces such as
Manisha Koirala
,
Ritesh Deshmukh
,
Mahesh Bhatt
,
David Dhawan
,
Masaba Gupta
,
Simi Garewal,
Esha Gupta and many others from the film and theatre industry.
Expressing her excitement about the show Neena Gupta says "I remember asking Ben Kingsley what he was going to do after Gandhi.
He said, "I'll go back to theatre because after doing such great work,
one cannot do anything less." I believe something similar happened to
me. After finishing an intense and incredible film with an amazing role,
I just had to come back to theatre. I am very fortunate to have been
offered this play and with such a talented team, no less. It is also
very rare to find a new and original Hindi play script, especially such a
well-written one. We have worked very hard and have enjoyed creating
this play together with Anupam Kher, every moment of it. I hope you
enjoy the play just as much as we have.
“It
is not a love story, but a story about relationships, misunderstandings
and our awkwardness in dealing with the truth. It’s amazing how someone
who meant the world to you sometimes turns into merely an acquaintance
over time. We often skirt delicate issues by saying ‘Mera Woh Matlab
Nahi Tha,’” says
Anupam
Kher.
“I
wanted two mature and accomplished actors to play these roles. I could
not find anybody better than Anupam Kher and Neena Gupta who could
justify the challenges,” says Rakesh Bedi.
